Lost, but not Forgotten

Luke 15:1-7 (ESV)
Now the tax collectors and sinners were all drawing near to hear him (Jesus).
And the Pharisees and the scribes grumbled, saying, “This man receives sinners and eats with them.”
So he told them this parable:
4 “What man of you, having a hundred sheep, if he has lost one of them, does not leave the ninety-nine in the open country, and go after the one that is lost, until he finds it?
And when he has found it, he lays it on his shoulders, rejoicing.
And when he comes home, he calls together his friends and his neighbors, saying to them, ‘Rejoice with me, for I have found my sheep that was lost.’
Just so, I tell you, there will be more joy in heaven over one sinner who repents than over ninety-nine righteous persons who need no repentance.

1. Every missing person has a name.
2. Every missing person has a story.
3. Every missing person matters to God.
4. Every missing person is equally loved, but the lost are God's priority.
5. No missing person is forgotten by God in the sea of humanity.
6. God reserves heaven's loudest celebration for when just one missing person is found by them receiving the Good News about Jesus's substitution for their sins.

Romans 10:13 (ESV)
13 For “everyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved.”

The Pain in the Past

Acts 28:3-5 New Living Translation (NLT)

As Paul gathered an armful of sticks and was laying them on the fire, a poisonous snake, driven out by the heat, bit him on the hand.

I.   Expect the enemy attacks, but not accept a spiritual defeat.

II.   Don't panic when the enemy attacks.

The people of the island saw it hanging from his hand and said to each other, “A murderer, no doubt! Though he escaped the sea, justice will not permit him to live.”

III.  Don't believe the lies of the enemy when he speaks through others.

But Paul shook off the snake into the fire and was unharmed.

IV.  Shake off the pain of the past.

Acts 28:6-10 (NLT)

The people waited for him to swell up or suddenly drop dead. But when they had waited a long time and saw that he wasn’t harmed, they changed their minds and decided he was a god.
Near the shore where we landed was an estate belonging to Publius, the chief official of the island. He welcomed us and treated us kindly for three days.
As it happened, Publius’s father was ill with fever and dysentery. Paul went in and prayed for him, and laying his hands on him, he healed him.
Then all the other sick people on the island came and were healed.
10 As a result we were showered with honors, and when the time came to sail, people supplied us with everything we would need for the trip.

V.  If we respond the right way, God will use our pain to His glory.

Paul used the snake bitten hand to heal others.  God uses our pain to help others if we don't hide it.

How to bless others

1. Praise others by finding a quality in them to pull out.   Don't highlight the bad, but highlight the good.

Proverbs 25:11  (NLT)
11 Timely advice is lovely,
like golden apples in a silver basket.

2. Express thankfulness by recognizing what others do for you.

3.  Show affection by saying I love you.  That's what God did to Jesus.

Matthew 3:17  (NLT)
17 And a voice from heaven said, “This is my dearly loved Son, who brings me great joy.”

Jeremiah 31:3  (NLT)
Long ago the Lord said to Israel:
“I have loved you, my people, with an everlasting love.
With unfailing love I have drawn you to myself.

4.  Encourage others by adding courage in discouraging situations.  Don't tell them who they are, but who they could be.

Ephesians 4:29  (NLT)
29 Don’t use foul or abusive language. Let everything you say be good and helpful, so that your words will be an encouragement to those who hear them.

5. Be kind to others.  It's okay to disagree, but not to be unkind.

Galatians 5:22  (NLT)
22 But the Holy Spirit produces this kind of fruit in our lives: ...kindness, ...

Proverbs 15:1 (NLT)
15 A gentle answer deflects anger,
but harsh words make tempers flare.

6. Speak the truth in love with a smile as you say it.

Ephesians 4:15  (NLT)
15 Instead, we will speak the truth in love, growing in every way more and more like Christ, who is the head of his body, the church.

7.  Pray for them.  Pray Father, let them find their destiny.   Pray for them in these areas.

Luke 2:52 (NLT)
52 Jesus grew in wisdom and in stature and in favor with God and all the people.

Luke 2:34 New Living Translation (NLT)
34 Then Simeon blessed them, and he said to Mary, the baby’s mother, “This child is destined...

Jesus was born with a destiny, and so do you.

God's Word written by Man's hand.

We won't know God if we don't know God's Word.  The Bible is God's Holy Spirit written with man's hand.

The Power of Peace

Luke 21:25-28 NKJV
25 “And there will be signs in the sun, in the moon, and in the stars; and on the earth distress of nations, with perplexity, the sea and the waves roaring; 26 men’s hearts failing them from fear and the expectation of those things which are coming on the earth, for the powers of the heavens will be shaken. 27 Then they will see the Son of Man coming in a cloud with power and great glory. 28 Now when these things begin to happen, look up and lift up your heads, because your redemption draws near.”
Romans 14:17 NKJV
17 for the kingdom of God is not eating and drinking, but righteousness and peace and joy in the Holy Spirit.
Romans 15:13 NKJV
13 Now may the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace in believing, that you may abound in hope by the power of the Holy Spirit.
Galatians 5:22 NKJV
22 But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, kindness, goodness, faithfulness,
John 14:27-28 NKJV
27 Peace I leave with you, My peace I give to you; not as the world gives do I give to you. Let not your heart be troubled, neither let it be afraid. 28 You have heard Me say to you, ‘I am going away and coming back to you.’ If you loved Me, you would rejoice because I said, ‘I am going to the Father,’ for My Father is greater than I.
A. Understanding the Nature of Jesus’ Peace and How it Differs from Worldly Peace
B. Understanding the Importance of Walking in the Peace of God
1. Peace is how God guides us.
Colossians 3:15 NKJV
15 And let the peace of God rule in your hearts, to which also you were called in one body; and be thankful.
2. Peace is how God protects our minds and hearts against Satan’s attacks of fear and anxiety.
Philippians 4:6-7 NKJV
Be anxious for nothing, but in everything by prayer and supplication, with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God; and the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus.
3. Peace is the platform of our witness.
Ephesians 6:15 NKJV
15 and having shod your feet with the preparation of the gospel of peace;
4. It is the purpose of our ministry and influence.
Matthew 5:9 NKJV
Blessed are the peacemakers,For they shall be called sons of God.
Luke 10:3-6 NKJV
Go your way; behold, I send you out as lambs among wolves. Carry neither money bag, knapsack, nor sandals; and greet no one along the road. But whatever house you enter, first say, ‘Peace to this house.’ And if a son of peace is there, your peace will rest on it; if not, it will return to you.
Mark 4:35-41 NKJV
35 On the same day, when evening had come, He said to them, “Let us cross over to the other side.” 36 Now when they had left the multitude, they took Him along in the boat as He was. And other little boats were also with Him. 37 And a great windstorm arose, and the waves beat into the boat, so that it was already filling. 38 But He was in the stern, asleep on a pillow. And they awoke Him and said to Him, “Teacher, do You not care that we are perishing?” 39 Then He arose and rebuked the wind, and said to the sea, “Peace, be still!” And the wind ceased and there was a great calm. 40 But He said to them, “Why are you so fearful? How is it that you have no faith?” 41 And they feared exceedingly, and said to one another, “Who can this be, that even the wind and the sea obey Him!”
C. The Five Essential Foundations of Peace
1. Submission to the Lordship of Christ
Isaiah 9:6-7 NIV
For to us a child is born,to us a son is given, and the government will be on his shoulders. And he will be calledWonderful Counselor, Mighty God,Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace. Of the greatness of his government and peacethere will be no end.He will reign on David’s throneand over his kingdom, establishing and upholding itwith justice and righteousnessfrom that time on and forever. The zeal of the Lord Almightywill accomplish this.
2. Diligent, Faith-Filled Prayer
Philippians 4:6-7 NKJV
Be anxious for nothing, but in everything by prayer and supplication, with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God; and the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus.
Isaiah 26:3 NKJV
You will keep him in perfect peace,Whose mind is stayed on You,Because he trusts in You.
Romans 8:5-6 NKJV
For those who live according to the flesh set their minds on the things of the flesh, but those who live according to the Spirit, the things of the Spirit. For to be carnally minded is death, but to be spiritually minded is life and peace.
Luke 21:28 NKJV
28 Now when these things begin to happen, look up and lift up your heads, because your redemption draws near.”
4. Daily Dependence upon the Holy Spirit
Galatians 5:22 NKJV
22 But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, kindness, goodness, faithfulness,
Isaiah 61:1-3 NKJV
“The Spirit of the Lord God is upon Me,Because the Lord has anointed MeTo preach good tidings to the poor;He has sent Me to heal the brokenhearted,To proclaim liberty to the captives,And the opening of the prison to those who are bound; To proclaim the acceptable year of the Lord,And the day of vengeance of our God;To comfort all who mourn, To console those who mourn in Zion,To give them beauty for ashes,The oil of joy for mourning,The garment of praise for the spirit of heaviness; That they may be called trees of righteousness,The planting of the Lord, that He may be glorified.”
Psalms 149:5-9 NKJV
Let the saints be joyful in glory;Let them sing aloud on their beds. Let the high praises of God be in their mouth,And a two-edged sword in their hand, To execute vengeance on the nations,And punishments on the peoples; To bind their kings with chains,And their nobles with fetters of iron; To execute on them the written judgment—This honor have all His saints.Praise the Lord!
