How to get justice from an unjust judge

“There was a judge in a certain city,” he (Jesus) said, “who neither feared God nor cared about people.

A widow of that city came to him repeatedly, saying, ‘Give me justice in this dispute with my enemy.’

The judge ignored her for a while, but finally he said to himself, ‘I don’t fear God or care about people, but this woman is driving me crazy.

I’m going to see that she gets justice, because she is wearing me out with her constant requests!’”

Then the Lord said, “Learn a lesson from this unjust judge. Luke 18:2-6 NLT

Prayers that wander

When your mind begins to wander in prayer, pause and ask the Holy Spirit where are you taking me?

Strategy for Successful Prayers

Philippians 4:6

New King James Version

Be anxious for nothing (a command), but in everything by prayer and supplication, with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God;

1. Anxious: Take a concern.

2. Pray:  Seek God's will in your concern by researching your request in the Bible.  Prepare your self to enter into God's presence to make your request.

Psalm 100:4

New King James Version

Enter into His gates with thanksgiving,
And into His courts with praise.
Be thankful to Him, and bless His name.

1 John 5:14

New King James Version

14 Now this is the confidence that we have in Him, that if we ask anything according to His will, He hears us.

3. Supplication: make a request to God out of your concern based upon Scripture.

(Using the Bible to support your petitions to God is what the Holy Spirit uses empower your requests.

Ephesians 6:17

... the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God,

24 For this reason I (Jesus) tell you, whatever you pray and ask for, believe that you have received it, and it will be yours.

Prayers that God answers

Matthew 7:7 English Standard Version

Ask:

James 1:5

English Standard Version

If any of you lacks wisdom, let him ask God, who gives generously to all without reproach, and it will be given him.

Seek:

1 John 5:14

And this is the confidence that we have toward him, that if we ask anything according to his will he hears us.

James 1:6-7

English Standard Version

But let him ask in faith, with no doubting, for the one who doubts is like a wave of the sea that is driven and tossed by the wind.

For that person must not suppose that he will receive anything from the Lord;

Then, Knock:

Mark 11:24

English Standard Version

Therefore I (Jesus) tell you, whatever you ask in prayer, believe that you have received it, and it will be yours.

What the more is for...

Matthew 5:13-16

Easy-to-Read Version

13 “You are the salt of the earth. But if the salt loses its taste, it cannot be made salty again. Salt is useless if it loses its salty taste. It will be thrown out where people will just walk on. it.

14 “You are the light that shines for the world to see. You are like a city built on a hill that cannot be hidden.

15 People don’t hide a lamp under a bowl. They put it on a lampstand. Then the light shines for everyone in the house.

16 In the same way, you should be a light for other people. Live so that they will see the good things you do and praise your Father in heaven.

We must be like salt and make things better.  We must be like light and make things brighter.

We must leave a legacy which is what people will remember when we are gone.

Acts 1:8

Easy-to-Read Version

But the Holy Spirit will come on you and give you power. You will be my witnesses. You will tell people everywhere about me—in Jerusalem, in the rest of Judea, in Samaria, and in every part of the world.”

We are to be witnesses not judges or prosecutors of others.

Matthew 25:37-40

Easy-to-Read Version

37 “Then the godly people will answer, ‘Lord, when did we see you hungry and give you food? When did we see you thirsty and give you something to drink?

38 When did we see you with no place to stay and welcome you into our home? When did we see you without clothes and give you something to wear?

39 When did we see you sick or in prison and care for you?’

40 “Then the king will answer, ‘The truth is, anything you did for any of my people here, you also did for me.’

We must meet the practical needs of people, so they will open their hearts to God.

Acts 16:5

Easy-to-Read Version

So the churches were becoming stronger in their faith, and the number of believers was growing every day.

We must invest in launching new churches and strengthen existing churches, so we can in turn reach the world.

Luke 10:2

Easy-to-Read Version

He said to them, “There is such a big harvest of people to bring in. But there are only a few workers to help harvest them. God owns the harvest. Ask him to send more workers to help bring in his harvest.

Matthew 16:18

English Standard Version

... I (Jesus) will build my church, and the gates of hell shall not prevail against it.

God blesses us with more than we need, so that we can be a blessing to others.  We must remember what the more is for.

Genesis 12:2

English Standard Version

And I (God) will make of you (Abraham) a great nation, and I will bless you and make your name great, so that you will be a blessing.

When we bless others, we become like God, and God will bless you for it.  There's almost nothing God won't do for those who help others.

Luke 12:48

Living Bible

...Much is required from those to whom much is given, for their responsibility is greater.

The more God blesses us.  The more He expects us to bless others.

Deuteronomy 21:17

Living Bible

17 He (the father of each family) must give the customary double portion to his oldest son, who is the beginning of his strength and who owns the rights of a firstborn son, even though he is the son of the wife his father doesn’t love.

The father gave the firstborn a double portion to take care of his siblings after the father was gone.

Hebrews 12:22-23

English Standard Version

22 But you have come to Mount Zion and to the city of the living God, the heavenly Jerusalem, and to innumerable angels in festal gathering, 23 and to the assembly of the firstborn who are enrolled in heaven, and to God, the judge of all, and to the spirits of the righteous made perfect...

We are God's first born, we have been given the responsibility to take care of others.

What to give Daddy for Christmas?

 Our Daddy God would like...

1.  For Him to receive the glory (credit) He deserves.

2.   He wants to be taken seriously by our surrendering to do what He wants us to do.

3.  He would like for us to be truly happy through obeying His Word - the Bible.

4.  He would like for us to be protected from Satanic attacks.

5. He would like us to know the truth.

6. He would like unity and not fight against other Christians, so the world can see Him as He truly is.

Read Matthew 6:9-10.  Read John 17.

How the men were wise

Disappointment is the gap between expectations and reality.

How can we turn disappointments into divine appointments?

Jesus was born in the town of Bethlehem in Judea during the time when Herod was king. After Jesus was born, some wise men from the east came to Jerusalem.

They asked people, “Where is the child who has been born to be the king of the Jews? We saw the star that shows he was born. We saw it rise in the sky in the east and have come to worship him.”

When King Herod heard about this, it upset him as well as everyone else in Jerusalem.

Herod called a meeting of all the leading Jewish priests and teachers of the law. He asked them where the Messiah would be born.

They answered, “In the town of Bethlehem in Judea, just as the prophet wrote:

‘Bethlehem, in the land of Judah,
you are important among the rulers of Judah.
Yes, a ruler will come from you,
and that ruler will lead Israel, my people.’”

Then Herod had a private meeting with the wise men from the east. He learned from them the exact time they first saw the star.

Then he sent them to Bethlehem. He said, “Go and look carefully for the child. When you find him, come tell me. Then I can go worship him too.”

After the wise men heard the king, they left. They saw the same star they had seen in the east, and they followed it. The star went before them until it stopped above the place where the child was.

10 They were very happy and excited to see the star.

11 The wise men came to the house where the child was with his mother Mary. They bowed down and worshiped him. Then they opened the boxes of gifts they had brought for him. They gave him treasures of gold, frankincense, and myrrh.

1.  The wise men who sought the baby Jesus found Him in a stable and not in a palace.

We must not look at our circumstances, but the God of our circumstances.

The scholars looked at the Scriptures, but not the savior written about in the Scriptures.  We must avoid this.

Nothing is more limiting than requiring God to fit within our expectations.

2.  Wise men offer their best to God.

When we find a stable experience instead of a palace experience, we must not withhold our best.

Our real problem is not our problem.  Our problem is that we're looking at our situation and not our God.

3.  Real wise men change their direction when God leads.

The Five Values of Resilience

Big people make you  bigger.  Small people make you smaller.

Everything that you want and need is outside your comfort zone.

A crisis gets you to jump out of your comfort zone.

Take advantage of the detour.  We can't find our way back to normal because normal is gone.

Crisis never leaves us the same.

No one has ever drifted to a desired location.

We can either lead our life or accept our life.

Success is not so much what we've attained in life, but what we have overcome in life.

A crisis reveals who the real leaders are.

The five values of resilience.

1. It understands life is difficult.

Its in the difficulty that you become who you are.  However, we don't like hard.   Easy has never helped me.

Everything worthwhile is uphill.   If you really what to lead, you must be willing to grind.  (William Booth)

When I'm resistant to what I can't control, it wears me down.  If I'm resilient, it polishes me.

Expect the unexpected, and expect to deal with it.

Me being comfortable is not important to God.  God is not drawn to wimps.

God didn't tell me that it would be easy, but He said that He would be with me.

2. It provides us better leadership opportunities.

If your looking at opportunities, you'll never find it.

We must be looking for problems.  See the problem.  You'll see the opportunity.

When you can afford to quit, you can't afford to quit.

3.  It keeps us focused on today.

Resilience is many short races not one long race.

Do what you need to do today.  Be the right person today.  Stay in the moment.

4.  Requires us to be creative.

There is always an answer; however, we loss that conviction.

The best things come out of our creativity.  We've got to make half time adjustments.

5.  It underlines our values.

You find out if your beliefs and values are solid.

Values that haven't been tested cannot be trusted. Values must be tested in bad times.

Impact Leadership Conference - Chris Hodges

Our IQ drops up to 30% when we are isolated.

How to fight isolation is transparency.

Select your relationships carefully.  They will determine your potential.

Purpose defines your life.  Your routine helps you live it out.

You can reboot your emotions by establishing a new routine.

Focus on just three tasks a day.  You are created on purpose for a purpose.

Take a day to dream, and put some routines to it.

Daily take control of what you can control.  Give up control of what you can't.

All is well that begins well.  If you master the first hour of your day, your day will turn up much more better.

Determine what you can control, and what you can't.  Focus on what you can.

God, give me grace to accept with serenity
the things that cannot be changed,
Courage to change the things
which should be changed,
and the Wisdom to distinguish
the one from the other.

Living one day at a time,
Enjoying one moment at a time,
Accepting hardship as a pathway to peace,
Taking, as Jesus did,
This sinful world as it is,
Not as I would have it,
Trusting that You will make all things right,
If I surrender to Your will,
So that I may be reasonably happy in this life,
And supremely happy with You forever in the next.

Amen.
