Acts 1:4-8

6 So when they had come together, they (Jesus's disciples) asked him, “Lord, will you at this time restore the kingdom to Israel?” 7 He (Jesus) said to them, “It is not for you to know times or seasons that the Father has fixed by his own authority. 8 But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you, and you will be my witnesses in Jerusalem and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the end of the earth.”

Acts 10:38

1. Prayer must be a priority.

14 All these with one accord were devoting themselves to prayer, together with the women and Mary the mother of Jesus, and his brothers.

Acts 2:42

...they (Jesus's disciples) devoted themselves to the apostles' teaching and the fellowship, to the breaking of bread and the prayers.

2.  Prayer should be prioritized.  Use this an outline like this.

Matthew 6:9-13

English Standard Version

9 Pray then like this:

“Our Father in heaven,
hallowed be your name.
10 Your kingdom come,
your will be done,
on earth as it is in heaven.
11 Give us this day our daily bread,
12 and forgive us our debts,
as we also have forgiven our debtors.
13 And lead us not into temptation,
    but deliver us from evil.

3.  Prayer should be filled with power.

Acts 4:31

English Standard Version

...when they (Jesus's disciples) had prayed, the place in which they were gathered together was shaken, and they were all filled with the Holy Spirit and continued to speak the word of God with boldness.

Matthew 18:18-20

English Standard Version

18 Truly, I say to you, whatever you (Jesus's disciples) bind on earth shall be bound in heaven, and whatever you loose on earth shall be loosed] in heaven. 19 Again I say to you, if two of you agree on earth about anything they ask, it will be done for them by my Father in heaven. 20 For where two or three are gathered in my name, there am I among them.”

B. Powerful prayers are based upon a Scripture in the Bible.

2 Corinthians 1:20

English Standard Version

20 For all the promises of God (a promise of God found in the Bible) find their Yes in him. That is why it is through him that we utter our Amen to God for his glory.

Prayer is a prophecy into our future.  Our wish is not God's command.  God's command is our wish.

C. Powerful prayers are bold.

James 5:16 B

English Standard Version

...The prayer of a righteous person has great power as it is working.

We insult God if our prayers are timid.  God honors bold prayers because bold prayers honor God.
