How to Survive A Marriage!

https://www.churchofthehighlands.com/media/message/becoming-one

Selfish means to be focused on self.   Two people living selfish is hell on earth.

1.  How do we become one?

Genesis 2:24 NLT)
24 This explains why a man leaves his father and mother and is joined to his wife, and the two are united into one.

Ephesians 5:31 (NLT)
31 As the Scriptures say, “A man leaves his father and mother and is joined to his wife, and the two are united into one.

1 Corinthians 6:15-17 (NLT)
15 Don’t you realize that your bodies are actually parts of Christ? Should a man take his body, which is part of Christ, and join it to a prostitute? Never! 16 And don’t you realize that if a man joins himself to a prostitute, he becomes one body with her? For the Scriptures say, “The two are united into one.” 17 But the person who is joined to the Lord is one spirit with him.

When we are intimate in body, we become one body.  However, we must become intimate in spirit, too!

We must die...to self.  When we became one with God, we died to self.   We, too, must become one with our spouse, and we must die to self. The world would be a lot better off if we'd just die...to self.

Don't leave any kind and good thing unsaid or undone.

The dominate person in the marriage needs to die first.

Jesus has dominion, and He had to die first.  God made marriage to kill you, so you'll be happy.

Men are like dogs.  If you praise him, you've got him.

2.  Why do we become one?

We have three test.

1.  Faith
2.  Family
3. Financing.

Malachi 2:8-10 NLT)
“Should people cheat God? Yet you have cheated me!
“But you ask, ‘What do you mean? When did we ever cheat you?’
“You have cheated me of the tithes and offerings due to me.
You are under a curse, for your whole nation has been cheating me.
10 Bring all the tithes into the storehouse so there will be enough food in my Temple. If you do,” says the Lord of Heaven’s Armies, “I will open the windows of heaven for you. I will pour out a blessing so great you won’t have enough room to take it in! Try it! Put me to the test!
(Faith & Financing)

The tithe is the only thing that we can test God on.  You are foolish not to tithe.  God gives us His money back guarantee.

Malachi 2:13-16 (NLT)
13 Here is another thing you do. You cover the Lord’s altar with tears, weeping and groaning because he pays no attention to your offerings and doesn’t accept them with pleasure.
14 You cry out, “Why doesn’t the Lord accept my worship?” I’ll tell you why! Because the Lord witnessed the vows you and your wife made when you were young. But you have been unfaithful to her, though she remained your faithful partner, the wife of your marriage vows.
15 Didn’t the Lord make you one with your wife? In body and spirit you are his.[a] And what does he want? Godly children from your union. So guard your heart; remain loyal to the wife of your youth.
16 “For I hate divorce!” says the Lord, the God of Israel. “To divorce your wife is to overwhelm her with cruelty,” says the Lord of Heaven’s Armies. “So guard your heart; do not be unfaithful to your wife.”
(Faith & Family)

God loves people, but hates divorce because divorce hurts people.

Fearful or Faithful?

What we believe about God affects how we live, how we view ourselves and others, and even how we respond to trials we face in life.

Our beliefs about God also affect our relationship with Him. It’s important to have a healthy view of God—one that is based not on our feelings or opinion but on the truth of His Word. In his new series, God Is …

1. Jesus is the sovereign Lord of the universe.

I Timothy 6:15 NKJV
15 which He will manifest in His own time, He who is the blessed and only Potentate, the King of kings and Lord of lords,

2. Jesus is faithful and true.

Revelation 3:14 NKJV
14 “And to the angel of the church of the Laodiceans write,‘These things says the Amen, the Faithful and True Witness, the Beginning of the creation of God:

Revelation 19:11 NKJV
11 Now I saw heaven opened, and behold, a white horse. And He who sat on him was called Faithful and True, and in righteousness He judges and makes war.

Numbers 23:19 NKJV
19 “God is not a man, that He should lie,Nor a son of man, that He should repent.Has He said, and will He not do?Or has He spoken, and will He not make it good?

Titus 1:2 NKJV
2 in hope of eternal life which God, who cannot lie, promised before time began,

Hebrews 6:18 NKJV
18 that by two immutable things, in which it is impossible for God to lie, we might have strong consolation, who have fled for refuge to lay hold of the hope set before us.

3. Faithful or Fearful?

Mark 4:40 NKJV
40 But He said to them, “Why are you so fearful? How is it that you have no faith?”

Hebrews 11:11 NKJV
11 By faith Sarah herself also received strength to conceive seed, and she bore a child when she was past the age, because she judged Him faithful who had promised.

Faith is judging God faithful.  Fear is judging God unfaithful.  The first word that God gives you.  When something happens, go back to the first word that God gave you.  Then, listen for a fresh word that God will give you.

Mark 4:35 NKJV
35 On the same day, when evening had come, He said to them, “Let us cross over to the other side.”

I'll Arrange It

What we believe about God affects how we live, how we view ourselves and others, and even how we respond to trials we face in life. Our beliefs about God also affect our relationship with Him.

It’s important to have a healthy view of God—one that is based not on our feelings or opinion but on the truth of His Word.

In his new series, God Is … , Pastor Robert shares the attributes of God, which will give you fresh perspective into His character and heart.

You’ll be encouraged as you learn more about your heavenly Father who never changes and loves you more than you’ll ever know.

This weekend, Pastor Robert shares a message titled “I’ll Arrange It,” where he speaks on how God is fully merciful and fully just at the same time.

Justice: Giving someone what he deserves.

Mercy: Not giving someone what he deserves.

1. God is 100%.

God is 100% merciful and 100% just at all times. He doesn't have mercy or justice.  If He were, He could run out.

God is 100% grace and 100% truth at the same time.  They do not war against each other.  He is both.  All of God's attributes are 100% active at all time.

John 1:17 NKJV
17 For the law was given through Moses, but grace and truth came through Jesus Christ.

2. God is 100% merciful.

Psalms 136:1-3 NKJV
Oh, give thanks to the Lord, for He is good! For His mercy endures forever.

Oh, give thanks to the God of gods! For His mercy endures forever.

Oh, give thanks to the Lord of lords! For His mercy endures forever.

II Chronicles 5:13-14 NKJV
13 indeed it came to pass, when the trumpeters and singers were as one, to make one sound to be heard in praising and thanking the Lord, and when they lifted up their voice with the trumpets and cymbals and instruments of music, and praised the Lord, saying:

(Quoting Psalm 136) “For He is good,For His mercy endures forever,”that the house, the house of the Lord, was filled with a cloud,

14 so that the priests could not continue ministering because of the cloud; for the glory of the Lord filled the house of God.

II Chronicles 20:21-22 NKJV
21 And when he had consulted with the people, he appointed those who should sing to the Lord, and who should praise the beauty of holiness, as they went out before the army and were saying (Quoting Psalm 136):“Praise the Lord,For His mercy endures forever.”

22 Now when they began to sing and to praise, the Lord set ambushes against the people of Ammon, Moab, and Mount Seir, who had come against Judah; and they were defeated.

Ezekiel 33:11 NKJV
11 Say to them: ‘As I live,’ says the Lord God, ‘I have no pleasure in the death of the wicked, but that the wicked turn from his way and live. Turn, turn from your evil ways! For why should you die, O house of Israel?’

3. God is 100% just.

The root of the word just means equal.

Iniquity means Inequity or not equal.  Means not equal with God.  Sin is inequity.

We can never balance out the scales with God's justice.  Unless we invite Jesus with us on our side of the scales.

I John 1:9 NKJV
If we confess our sins, He is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.

We now have been sentenced to heaven because Jesus took my punishment for me.

Enjoy the Ride

1. God does because He is.

God does God because He is good.

We don't really worship God.  We worship our concept of God.

We don't really witness.  We witness our concept of God.

Psalms 119:68 NKJV
68 You are good, and do good;Teach me Your statutes.

Hebrews 11:6 NKJV
6 But without faith it is impossible to please Him, for he who comes to God must believe that He is, and that He is a rewarder of those who diligently seek Him.

2. What are attributes?

Attribute
A tribute
Tribe

Tribe: the distinct characteristics of a group of people who have descended from one person.

Some of God's attributes we will have.

Exodus 34:6 NKJV
6 And the Lord passed before him and proclaimed,

“The Lord, the Lord God,

merciful and gracious, long suffering, and abounding in goodness and truth,

Some we will never have.

I Timothy 1:17 NKJV
17 Now to the King eternal,

immortal, invisible, to God who alone is wise,

be honor and glory forever and ever. Amen.

3. God is good.

Good looks at all that He does to make sure that it is good.

When man fell from God's creative goodness, He sent Jesus to ensure His eternal goodness.

God did not create a messed up world.  We did.

Genesis 1:4 NKJV
4 And God saw the light, that it was good; and God divided the light from the darkness.

Genesis 1:10 NKJV
10 And God called the dry land Earth, and the gathering together of the waters He called Seas. And God saw that it was good.

Genesis 1:12 NKJV
12 And the earth brought forth grass, the herb that yields seed according to its kind, and the tree that yields fruit, whose seed is in itself according to its kind. And God saw that it was good.

Genesis 1:18 NKJV
18 and to rule over the day and over the night, and to divide the light from the darkness. And God saw that it was good.

Genesis 1:21 NKJV
21 So God created great sea creatures and every living thing that moves, with which the waters abounded, according to their kind, and every winged bird according to its kind. And God saw that it was good.

Genesis 1:25 NKJV
25 And God made the beast of the earth according to its kind, cattle according to its kind, and everything that creeps on the earth according to its kind. And God saw that it was good.

Genesis 1:31 NKJV
31 Then God saw everything that He had made, and indeed it was very good. So the evening and the morning were the sixth day.

Genesis 2:18 NKJV
18 And the Lord God said, “It is not good that man should be alone; I will make him a helper comparable to him.”
