Who does God speak too?

When God speaks to you, what do you do with it?

We need to obey God's written word, and God's spoken word to us within our hearts.

If you're God, when you want something done, who are you going to speak to?

Someone who does what you ask them to do or does not do it?  Obey what you hear if you want to continue to hear God.

Mark 4:24-25  (NKJV)

24 Then He said to them, Take heed what you hear.

With the same measure (amount) you use (obey), it will be measured to you; and to you who hear (obeys) , more (of God's words within your hearts) will be given.

25 For whoever has (obeys God's spoken word within their heart), to him more (words) will be given; but whoever does not have (obey), even what he has will be taken away from him (God will no longer speak to you, and you won't remember when He did) .”

The 10 ways that God speaks to us is through...

1. Circumstances (Jonah).

2. Counsel (Proverbs).

3. Peace (Col. 3:15, Phil. 4:7).

4. People (Acts 21:10-11).

5. Dreams and visions

(Solomon, Peter, Joseph, Daniel).

6. Thoughts (Matthew 1:20)

7. Natural manifestations

(Romans 1, John 12:29, Revelation)

8. Supernatural manifestations

(Moses's burning bush, Gideon's fleece, Balaam's  donkey).

9. The Bible (Romans 10:17).

10. A still small voice
(1 Kings 19:12)

1. Obey what you hear.

The point is that God still speaks.  God speaks on a certain frequency if we will just tune into it.  Like a radio tunes in on radio frequencies.

There are other voices in addition to God's voice.  In the garden, both God and Satan were speaking to Adam and Eve.

Jesus said "Take heed what you hear".  Be careful what (and which voice that) you listen too.

Satan is called the prince of the power of the air (Ephesians 2:2).  When you speak, your words travel through the air before they reach the hearer's ears.

Do you think that Satan might be attempting to twist your words before they are heard by others?

Sometimes you can hear your thoughts and think that it's God.  God speaks to you through others for confirmation.  To confirm what God has already spoken to you within your own heart.

2. How do you hear?

Luke 8:18 (NKJV)

18 Therefore take heed how you hear. For whoever has, to him more will be given; and whoever does not have, even what he seems to have will be taken from him.”

How do you hear when God speaks?  Are you focused upon you or God when He speaks?  Are you making it about you?

If you are not faithful with a little, you won't be faithful with a lot.

Joseph told his brothers about his dreams, and it cost him dearly.

James 4:6-7 New King James Version (NKJV)

But He gives more grace. Therefore He says:
God resists the proud,
But gives grace to the humble.”

7 Therefore submit to God. Resist the devil and he will flee from you.

There are two resists in the passage above.  You can't resist the devil when God is resisting you.

To get more grace, you have to be more humble.  Resist means to play on the opposing team in sports.  God lets us run with the ball if we stay behind Him as our blocker.

If we get proud, God plays on the opposing team.  Why would God do that because He tackles us lovingly?

Beware of familiar spirits.  We need to be careful who we listen too.  If we listen to demonic voices for so long, we think its God.  They sound familiar to us.  (Leviticus 19:31)

3. Take Heed what you hear
(Mark 4:23, Luke 8:18).

Jonah 1:2-3  (NKJV)

“Arise, go to Nineveh, that great city, and cry out against it; for their wickedness has come up before Me.”
But Jonah arose to flee to Tarshish from the presence of the Lord. He went down to Joppa, and found a ship going to Tarshish; so he paid the fare, and went down into it,to go with them to Tarshish from the presence of the Lord.

When you don't obey the Word of the Lord, you leave the presence of God.  God spoke to Jonah with His voice.  Then, God spoke to Him through His circumstances.

If you don't hear God voice, go back to the last time that you heard God and obey Him.

God caused Jonah's circumstances to close down around him, so Jonah would repent.

Then, God will open up your circumstances.  Why would God speak something new to you if you haven't done the last thing that He spoke to you about?

You'll get more words from God if you'll just act upon the words that He's already given to you.

What are you going to do when God speaks to you?  If you obey what He says, then He'll give you more.

Set an appointment with God to hear Him.

Ask, Holy Spirit what are you saying to me in these words?

Holy Spirit, please draw me close to Jesus.
