We must be generous to God in our
thanksgiving to Him.
(Paul mentioned 50 times thanksgiving with
it being mentioned by others in the New Testament 21 times).
Colossians
2:6-7 English
Standard Version (ESV)
6 Therefore, as you received Christ Jesus the Lord,
Did you receive Him gratefully?
so walk in him,
That's how we should continue living. We walk out
obedience through our gratitude for Him.
7 rooted (passive tense)
1. Jesus is the source
of our salvation.
To be rooted is grounded like a
tree which holds strong in the ground like we do in Jesus Christ who died and
rose for me. We have received this past action of Jesus Christ.
and established (passive
tense) in the faith,
2. Jesus is
the security of our salvation.
What Jesus
did for us is only the beginning. I couldn't do anything to save myself;
therefore, I can't do anything to lose my salvation. It is a past action
that has on going impact.
Our security
is not in what happens, but in the person of Jesus Christ. We know that we're saved, and we are secure in that.
We are made
for another world not this one. I am secure that I'm being built up in Jesus Christ.
just as you were taught,
abounding (active tense) in thanksgiving.
3. Jesus is
the strength of our salvation.
We are being
rooted like a plant in Christ, and built up like a building in Christ.
Praise
completes the circle of God's blessing which return to Him in praise and adoration.
Thank you to God and others should
come from our lips which originates from our hearts.
We
understand whose we are and who we are in Jesus Christ. We aren't suppose
to be thankful for everything, but in everything.
Colossians
3:15-16 (ESV)
15 And let the peace of Christ rule in your hearts, to
which indeed you were called in one body.
And be
thankful.
16 Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly, teaching and
admonishing one another in all wisdom,
singing
psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, with
thankfulness in your hearts to God.
Ask the Holy Spirit. What are you saying to me through these words?
