How to Discover Your Purpose

The three most important days of your life is the day that you were born. The day that you were born again, and the day that you realize what you were born to do.

Jeremiah 18:1-6 (NIRV)
18 A message from the Lord came to me. He said, “Jeremiah, go down to the potter’s house.
I will give you my message there.” So I went down to the potter’s house. I saw him working at his wheel.
His hands were shaping a pot out of clay. But he saw that something was wrong with it.
So he formed it into another pot. He shaped it in the way that seemed best to him.
Then the Lord’s message came to me.

“People of Israel, I can do with you just as this potter does,” announces the Lord.
“The clay is in the potter’s hand. And you are in my hand, people of Israel.

We were made by God and for God.  In God, we discover our purpose.

1. The starting point is an opportunity. It may be disguised as work.

How can you take your daily responsibility and give it to God? Surrender it to the Lord for His purposes.

If you're faithful with what's now, God will take care of what's next.  Start where you are, and do what you can.

2. As you get involved in community, you will find where you fit in.  The enemy tells you a lie that you have nothing to offer.
How are you gifted?  You have an ability placed there by God Himself.

It takes others to confirm your gifts.  Some of you don't see what's in you, but others will point it out to you. God's gift to you is not just for you.

1 Corinthians 12:7 (NIRV)

The Holy Spirit is given to each of us in a special way. That is for the good of all.

A spiritual gift is given to each of us.  A gift is the ability to do more than you can do on your own.  You are a steward of it.

That gift inside of you is for the purpose of helping someone else.  Don't compare your gift to someone else and get jealous.  You'll never receive the gift that God has given through them.

1 Corinthians 12:14-18  (NIRV)

14 So the body is not made up of just one part. It has many parts.
15 Suppose the foot says, “I am not a hand. So I don’t belong to the body.”
By saying this, it cannot stop being part of the body.
16 And suppose the ear says, “I am not an eye.
So I don’t belong to the body.” By saying this, it cannot stop being part of the body.
17 If the whole body were an eye, how could it hear?
If the whole body were an ear, how could it smell?
18 God has placed each part in the body just as he wanted it to be.

3. God uses pain to help us discover our purpose. God says trust me with your pain.

When we give all our pieces to the Lord, God has a way to bring all the pieces together.

Pain can be a servant of God.  When pain shouts at you, God is present with you. Your most effective ministry may come from your deepest pain.

The easiest way to discover the purpose of an invention is to ask the inventor.

Pray Lord Jesus, why have you placed me here?  Please forgive me for my past.  I give my life to you.  Do with me what you will. Amen!
