Is your Mind Satan's Playground

The devil is the king of distraction.

He knows that if he can't stop you.

He'll distract you by keeping you busy.

In the Garden of Eden, Satan tempted Adam and Eve to eat the forbidden fruit.

Satan was getting them distracted from walking with God.

Satan was getting them off their eternal purpose.

Are you attempting to start a new season in your life, but are struggling to find traction because of distraction?

Some of you are trying to go to the next level of your faith, but you can't because you can't focus.

This is how you can stay on point.

1. Eliminate so you can elevate.

A. Eliminate Drama-

People who do drama are emotionally expensive.

I just have so much in my emotional bank account, so I can't afford this kind of thing in my life.

People who do drama will put demands on you that you never asked for.

Drama has nothing to do with the facts, but has everything to do with the story that rooted in somebody's head.

In Drama, there is always a villain, and it's normally you.

There's always a victim.

Drama can get us off point.

We don't invite it, but do we allow it.

Nehemiah was being distracted from doing God's work by the drama in the passage below.

Nehemiah 6:2-4 (NIRV)
Sanballat and Geshem sent me a message. They said,

“Come.

Let’s talk with one another.

Let’s meet in one of the villages on the plain of Ono.”

But they were planning to harm me.

So I sent messengers to them with my answer.

I replied,

“I’m working on a huge project.

So I can’t get away.

Why should the work stop while I leave it?

Why should I go down and talk with you?”

4 They sent me the same message four times.
And I gave them the same answer each time.

When you respond to drama, you've become a part of the cast.

You're pressing pause in God's plan for your life,

and you're messing in an area that's not going to do you any good.

Nehemiah was being baited.

Just because drama calls doesn't mean that you have to answer.

If you allow all the talk to get into your ear, it can lodge in your head.

Then, it drops down from your head into your heart.

Then, you drop down to their level.

You don't need to borrow somebody's else's craziness.

This is Satan's way of baiting you.

It's bait to get you off your purpose.

Jesus said it like this.

Matthew 7:6 (NIRV)
“Do not give holy things to dogs.

Do not throw your pearls to pigs.

If you do, they might walk all over them.

They might turn around and tear you to pieces.

B. Manage your media intake.

I enjoy knowing what's going on,

but I don't enjoy knowing what everybody thinks about what's going on.

Technology has created a culture of access and excess.

God's best can be found in boundaries and balance.

God's trying to talk to us, but we are distracted.

Life is passing us by, but we've got our nose in a phone living viciously through other people.

You'll either get jealous at what you see everybody else doing,

or you'll get judgmental about what you see everybody else doing.

You want their life.

How'd they get those opportunities?

Something inside of you starts to die.

There is a little toxicity.

You're more wrapped up in the chaos of their world,

and you've invited it into your world.

Media can get you information, but it can't give you revelation.

Some of you are fighting some battles, but media will not do a thing to solve it.

We're to worried about facebook, but you need to put your face in God's book.

C. Learn to power of saying no!

Saying no is one of the most difficult things for me because by nature I am a people pleaser.

It bothers me when I know that there is someone out there who is disappointed in me.

How many of you lose sleep when you know that there is someone disappointed in you?

Out of that need to please you. I will say yes to keep you happy.

If you are happy, I feel better about myself, but what I don't realize.

In my efforts to make you happy, I am miserable on the inside.

For some of you, it's not that you can't say no, but you don't know how to say it well.

You can no, but you can still be okay.

You may still disappoint people.

You have been saying yes to things that God has not told you to do.

Have you ever said yes, but on the inside all your guts are saying no?

You knew intuitively that this was not going to end up well.

Every false yes builds a level of resentment in your life.
You find yourself resenting people who asked you to do something,

but it was your responsibility to say no in the first place.

God isn't going to anoint something that He never told you to do.

We blame others.

We blame God, but we have to have the courage to step up and say no!

You can say yes with confident and your no without guilt.

Jesus said...
Matthew 5:37 (NIRV)
37 All you need to say is simply
‘Yes’ or ‘No.’
Anything more than this comes from the evil one.

Just because you can.

Doesn't mean you should.

If there is an opportunity,
check in with God just to verify that He's in it.

Some of you, your schedules are so full, but your souls are so empty.

Use the no to preserve your soul.

Sometimes the best addition is a good subtraction.

What are the things in your life that are not bearing any fruit.

If it's unfruitful, God says that it's time to prune.

If it's not life giving, it's sucking the life out of you.

What are the distractions that fill your day with activity, but rob it of eternal purpose?
2. Organize so you don't agonize.

It's hard to change the world if you can't find your car keys.

The average person spends an entire week out of the year looking for stuff that they've lost.
It's difficult for God to speak to a cluttered, chaotic spirit.

The purpose of organizing is to have inner quiet in your soul.

chaos + order = blessing (in Creation)
Genesis 1:1-4 (NIRV)
In the beginning,
God created the heavens and the earth.
The earth didn’t have any shape.
And it was empty.
There was darkness over the surface of the waves.
At that time,
the Spirit of God was hovering over the waters.
God said,

“Let there be light.”

And there was light.
God saw that the light was good.

He separated the light from the darkness.
In the beginning,

God began to bring order out of chaos.

Then, God blessed it saying that it was good.

chaos + order = blessing (after Noah's flood)
Genesis 6:5

The Lord saw how bad the sins of everyone on earth had become.
They only thought about evil things.
13 So God said to Noah...
14 So make yourself an ark
8:21-22 I will never destroy all living things again,

as I have just done.
“As long as the earth lasts.
chaos + order = blessing (in feeding the 5,000).

Mark 6:39   (NIRV)

Then Jesus directed them to have all the people sit down in groups on the green grass.
How do you get from chaos to blessing?

There's got to be order.

There's got to be organization.

I need alignment before God releases me into my assignment.

3. Focus so that you can flourish.

Luke 10:38-42  (NIRV)
38 Jesus and his disciples went on their way.
Jesus came to a village
where a woman named Martha lived.
She welcomed him into her home.
39 She had a sister named Mary.
Mary sat at the Lord’s feet
listening to what he said.
40 But Martha was busy
with all the things
that had to be done.
She came to Jesus and said,
“Lord,
my sister has left me to do the work by myself.
Don’t you care?
Tell her to help me!”
41 “Martha, Martha,”

the Lord answered.
“You are worried

and upset about many things.

42 But few things are needed.

Really, only one thing is needed.

Mary has chosen what is better.

And it will not be taken away from her.”

Sometimes good things will rob you from the best things.

Some of you are over committed, but under satisfied.

Your to do list is growing, but your heart is shrinking.
We live in a Martha world, but we need to have a Mary spirit.

It says that there's one thing that matter's most.
If I don't get everything right, let me get one thing right.
It's about sitting at the feet of Jesus, and listening to Him.

Paul said in...
Philippians 3:13 B  (NIRV)
But here is the one thing I do.
I forget what is behind me.
I push hard toward what is ahead of me.

There is a deadly spiritual battle being fought between God and Satan for control of your mind.

2 Corinthians 10:3-5 (NIRV)

I do live in the world. But I don’t fight my battles the way the people of the world do.

The weapons I fight with are not the weapons the world uses. In fact, it is just the opposite. My weapons have the power of God to destroy the camps of the enemy.

I destroy every claim and every reason that keeps people from knowing God. I keep every thought under control in order to make it obey Christ.

2 Corinthians 2:14A (NIRV)

Give thanks to God! He always leads us as if we were prisoners in Christ’s victory parade.

We're talking about an all out war!

I. Satan's battleplan.
Satan has declared war against your thoughts.

Satan is not clothed in flesh.

Ephesians 6:12  (NIRV)

12 Our fight is not against human beings. It is against the rulers, the authorities and the powers of this dark world. It is against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly world.

There is a demonic array of forces fighting against your thoughts.

They include....
Imaginations.
Knowledge.
Thoughts.

Satan's strategy is to conquer your thoughts to make you a stronghold to make war against God.

Satan wants you.

There is a difference between your mind and your brain.

Your mind does the thinking.  Your brain is what you think with.

It's like a piano (the brain) and a pianist (the mind).

2 Corinthians 11:3  (NIRV)

But Eve’s mind was tricked by the snake’s clever lies. And here’s what I’m afraid of. Your minds will also somehow be led astray. They will be led away from your true and pure love for Christ.

God destroyed an entire civilization because of their thinking.

Genesis 6:5  (NIRV)

The Lord saw how bad the sins of everyone on earth had become. They only thought about evil things.

What are you looking at, listening too, and thinking about?

Romans 8:6 (NIRV)

The thoughts of a person ruled by sin bring death. But the mind ruled by the (God's)Spirit brings life and peace.

Proverbs 23:7  (NKJV)

For as he thinks in his heart, so is he.
“Eat and drink!” he says to you,
But his heart is not with you.

What you watch and listen to captivate your thinking.

We need to guard our minds, and watch what we allow in it.

Isaiah 26:3 (NKJV)

You will keep him in perfect peace,
Whose mind is stayed on You,
Because he trusts in You.

To lock out demonic thoughts, set your mind on God and His Word (the Bible).

God wants your mind because that is how He speaks to you.

God communicates to you through your thoughts.

Ephesians 4:17-18  (NIRV)

17 Here is what I’m telling you. I am speaking for the Lord as I warn you. You must no longer live as the Gentiles do. Their thoughts don’t have any purpose.

18 They can’t understand the truth. They are separated from the life of God. That’s because they don’t know him. And they don’t know him because their hearts are stubborn.

God does not communicate to you through your emotions.

Emotions are the shallowest part of your nature.

God communicates to you through your mind.

Ephesians 4:23  (NIRV)

23 You were taught to be made new in your thinking.

You can change the way you live by changing the way you think.

Romans 12:2  (NIRV)

Don’t live the way this world lives. Let your way of thinking be completely changed. Then you will be able to test what God wants for you. And you will agree that what he wants is right. His plan is good and pleasing and perfect.

God communicates to you through your mind.
God changes you through your mind.
God controls you through your mind.

Romans 8:6  (NIRV)

The thoughts of a person ruled by sin bring death. But the mind ruled by the Spirit brings life and peace.

Life is 10% what happens to you, and 90% how you react to it. (Chuck Swindoll)

II. The weakness of our flesh.

2 Corinthians 10:3 New King James Version (NKJV)

For though we walk in the flesh, we do not war according to the flesh.

We don't fight with flesh and blood because we don't fight against flesh and blood. (Ephesians 6:10-13)

We can't out wit or out work the devil.

I'm not talking about education.
I'm not talking about laws.
Laws can only restrain behavior.
Laws cannot make people good.
Environment cannot save us.
These are all carnal methods.
Adam and Eve were deceived in their minds in paradise.

Proverbs 4:23  (NIRV)

23 Above everything else, guard your heart.
Everything you do comes from it.

III. The weapons of our fight.
It was Paul against the Romans Empire.
Paul won this fight.
Not with carnal weapons,
But by his thinking.

2 Corinthians 10:3-5 (NKJV)

For though we walk in the flesh, we do not war according to the flesh.
For the weapons of our warfare are not carnal but mighty in God for pulling down strongholds,
casting down arguments and every high thing that exalts itself against the knowledge of God, bringing every thought into captivity to the obedience of Christ.

We capture evil thoughts with the Word of God.
Thoughts that align with Scripture originate from God.
Thoughts that contradict Scripture originate from Satan.
We speak God's Word out loud to the thoughts that originate from Satan to overcome them.
Spoken words defeats unspoken thoughts.
(M. H. Dennis)

IV. The sovereignty of our Commander.

2 Corinthians 10:7 (NIRV)

You are judging only by how things look on the surface. Suppose someone is sure they belong to Christ. Then they should consider again that we belong to Christ just as much as they do.

Jesus said...

John 12:31 (NIRV)

31 Now it is time for the world to be judged. Now the prince of this world will be thrown out.

V. The Authority of our Commission.

2 Corinthians 10:8  (NIRV)

8 Do I brag too much about the authority the Lord gave me? If I do, it’s because I want to build you up, not tear you down. And I’m not ashamed of that kind of bragging.

Authority is the legal right to act upon another.
Jesus has already won His war against Satan, and He has given to us the right to act as His attorney on the earth.

Luke 10:19-20 (NIRV)

19 I have given you authority to walk all over snakes and scorpions. You will be able to destroy all the power of the enemy. Nothing will harm you.
20 But do not be glad when the evil spirits obey you. Instead, be glad that your names are written in heaven.”

We are to resist the devil not to chase after him (James 4:7).
When he comes at you,
stand your ground.
He will flee.

God made you, so you can't think two thoughts at one time.
If you're thinking what's right, you can't think on what's wrong.
This is called the Law of Replacement.
Replacing Bad Thoughts with Good Ones.
Here is a checklist of what to think about from Paul. (M. H. Dennis)

Philippians 4:8 (NIRV)

Finally, my brothers and sisters,
always think about what is true.
Think about what is noble,
right
and pure.
Think about what is lovely and worthy of respect.
If anything is excellent or worthy of The devil is the king of distraction.

He knows that if he can't stop you.

He'll distract you by keeping you busy.

In the Garden of Eden, Satan tempted Adam and Eve to eat the forbidden fruit.

If anything is excellent or worthy of praise,
think about those kinds of things.

You can have peace.
No matter how bad it is.

Philippians 4:7 (NIRV)

Then God’s peace will watch over your hearts and your minds. He will do this because you belong to Christ Jesus. God’s peace can never be completely understood.

Say Lord Jesus, I need you.  I want you. I need you for this life, and the next. You promised to save me if I'd trust you.  I do trust you Jesus. Thank you!

Will you tell Him that?

Romans 10:9-10 (NIRV)

Say with your mouth, “Jesus is Lord.” Believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead. Then you will be saved.
10 With your heart you believe and are made right with God. With your mouth you say what you believe. And so you are saved. raise,
think about those kinds of things.

You can have peace.
No matter how bad it is.
