Satan wants to make us ineffective.
Romans 7:21-24 (NASB)
21 I find then the principle that evil is present in
me, the one who wants to do good. 22 For I joyfully concur with the law of God in the
inner man, 23 but I see a different law in the members
of my body, waging war against the law of my mind and making me a prisoner of the
law of sin which is in my members. 24 Wretched
man that I am! Who will set me free from the body of this death?
Jesus wants to set you free.
John
8:36 (ESV)
36 So if the Son (Jesus) sets you free, you will be free
indeed.
Jesus can set you free from
Addictions.
Romans 6:12-14 (ESV)
12 Let not sin therefore reign in your mortal body, to make
you obey its passions. 13 Do
not present your members to sin as instruments for unrighteousness, but present
yourselves to God as those who have been brought from death to life, and your
members to God as instruments for righteousness. 14 For sin will have no dominion over you, since you are
not under law but under grace.
Jesus can set you free from debauchery which is an extreme indulgence
in sensuality.
Ephesians 5:18 (ESV)
18 And do not get drunk with wine,
for that is debauchery,
but be filled with the Spirit,
Jesus can set your free from sexual immorality.
1 Corinthians
6:15-18 (ESV)
15 Do you not know that your bodies
are members of Christ? Shall I then take the members of Christ and make them
members of a prostitute? Never! 16 Or do you not know that he who is joined (to connect on the
deepest level) to a prostitute becomes one body with her? For, as it
is written, “The two will become one flesh.” 17 But he who is joined to the Lord becomes one spirit with him. 18 Flee from sexual
immorality. Every other sin a person commits is outside the body,
but the sexually immoral person sins against his own body.
God has your
best at heart.
Body Detox
1 Thessalonians 4:4-5 (ESV)
4 that each one of you know how to control his own body in
holiness and honor, 5 not in the passion of lust like the Gentiles who
do not know God;
1. Flee from sin
You don't
manage it.
1 Corinthians 6:18-20 (ESV)
18 Flee from sexual
immorality. Every other sin a person commits is outside the body, but the
sexually immoral person sins against his own body. 19 Or do you not know that your body is a temple of the Holy
Spirit within you, whom you have from God? You are not your own, 20 for
you were bought with a price. So glorify God in your body.
2. Guard your mind.
It is much easier to escape sin if you're not
feeding it. Change your thinking.
Matthew 6:22-23 (ESV)
22 “The eye is the lamp of
the body. So, if your eye is healthy, your whole body will be full of light, 23 but if your
eye is bad, your whole body will be full of darkness. If then the
light in you is darkness, how great is the darkness!
Romans 8:5 (ESV)
5 For those who live
according to the flesh set their minds on the things of the flesh, but those who live according to
the Spirit set their minds on the things of the Spirit.
3. Go all in with God.
Find your
purpose, so you wont' have time for all the other stuff.
1 Corinthians 9:25-27 (ESV)
25 Every athlete exercises self-control in all things. They
do it to receive a perishable wreath, but we an imperishable. 26 So I do not run aimlessly; I do not box as one beating the
air. 27 But I discipline my body and keep it under control, lest
after preaching to others I myself should be disqualified.
