1 Peter 2:24 (NIV)
24 “He himself bore our sins” in his body on the
cross, so that we might die to sins and live for
righteousness; “by his wounds you have been healed.”
We must die daily to sin because we're still
working it out of our lives.
Healing is like that. We are healed, but we
are still working sickness out of our lives like we do sin.
These are the twin mercies of God. Satan
has twin afflictions which are sin and sickness.
We see God's twin mercies throughout the Bible.
We see sin and sickness addressed in the passage below.
2 Chronicles 7:14 (NIV)
If my people, who are called by my name, will
humble themselves and pray and seek my face and turn from
their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven, and I will forgive their
sin and will heal their land.
You see these twin mercies in the passage below
on the lame man healed by Jesus.
Matthew 9:5-6 (NIV)
5 Which is easier: to say, ‘Your sins are forgiven,’ or to
say, ‘Get up and walk’? 6 But I want you to know that the
Son of Man has authority on earth to forgive sins.” So he said to the
paralyzed man, “Get up, take your mat and go home.”
Just like freedom from sin is mine, but I must
pursue it. Healing is mine, but I must pursue it, too. My role is the process.
It is a process not a formula. We are
pursuing all that God has for us. We like the end result, but God likes
the process because we must depend upon Him.
We see this pursuit of forgiveness and healing in
passage below also.
James 5:13-16 (NIV)
13 Is anyone among you in trouble? Let them pray. Is anyone
happy? Let them sing songs of praise.
14 Is anyone among you sick? Let them call the
elders of the church to pray over them and anoint them with oil in the name
of the Lord.
15 And the prayer offered in faith will make the sick
person well; the Lord will raise them up. If they have sinned, they will
be forgiven.
16 Therefore confess your sins to each other and pray for
each other so that you may be healed. The prayer of a
righteous person is powerful and effective.
Lord, we ask for your twin mercies to be forgiven and
healed. We have habits that need to go away.
1 John 5:14 (NIV)
14 This is the confidence we have in approaching God: that
if we ask anything according to his will, he hears us.
15 And if we know that he hears us—whatever we ask—we know that
we have what we asked of him.
Lord, what we have prayed for is according to your will as revealed to us in Scripture. We thank you for hearing us in Jesus name.
