Why the Bible can be Trusted

1. It is historically accurate.

Psalm 33:4 New Living Translation (NLT)
For the word of the Lord holds true,
and we can trust everything he does.

2. It is scientifically accurate.

Psalm 148:5-6 New Living Translation (NLT)
Let every created thing give praise to the Lord,
for he issued his command, and they came into being.
He set them in place forever and ever.
His decree will never be revoked.

Isaiah 40:22 New Living Translation (NLT)
22 God sits above the circle of the earth.
The people below seem like grasshoppers to him!
He spreads out the heavens like a curtain
and makes his tent from them.

Job 26:7 New Living Translation (NLT)
God stretches the northern sky over empty space
and hangs the earth on nothing.

Jeremiah 33:22 New Living Translation (NLT)
22 And as the stars of the sky cannot be counted and the sand on the seashore cannot be measured.

Leviticus 17:11 New Living Translation (NLT)
11 for the life of the body is in its blood. I have given you the blood on the altar to purify you, making you right with the Lord. It is the blood, given in exchange for a life, that makes purification possible.

Leviticus 13:4 New Living Translation (NLT)
“But if the affected area of the skin is only a white discoloration and does not appear to be more than skin-deep, and if the hair on the spot has not turned white, the priest will quarantine the person for seven days.

Psalm 12:6 New Living Translation (NLT)
The Lord’s promises are pure,
like silver refined in a furnace,
    purified seven times over.

If you believe what you like in the Bible, but don't believe what you don't like, it's not the Bible that you trust in but yourself.

3.  It is prophetically accurate.

2 Peter 1:21 New Living Translation (NLT)
21 or from human initiative. No, those prophets were moved by the Holy Spirit, and they spoke from God.

Matthew 26:56 New Living Translation (NLT)
56 But this is all happening to fulfill the words of the prophets as recorded in the Scriptures.” At that point, all the disciples deserted him and fled.

Revelation 22:6 New Living Translation (NLT)
Then the angel said to me, “Everything you have heard and seen is trustworthy and true. The Lord God, who inspires his prophets, has sent his angel to tell his servants what will happen soon.

4.  It is thematically unified.

Luke 24:27 New Living Translation (NLT)
27 Then Jesus took them through the writings of Moses and all the prophets, explaining from all the Scriptures the things concerning himself.

5. It is trusted by Jesus.

Matthew 5:18 New Living Translation (NLT)
18 I tell you the truth, until heaven and earth disappear, not even the smallest detail of God’s law will disappear until its purpose is achieved.

6.  It has survived all attacks.

1 Peter 1:24-25 New Living Translation (NLT)
24 As the Scriptures say,
“People are like grass;
their beauty is like a flower in the field.
The grass withers and the flower fades.
25     But the word of the Lord remains forever.”

7. It has transforming power.  It will change your life.

John 8:31-32 New Living Translation (NLT)
31 Jesus said to the people who believed in him, “You are truly my disciples if you remain faithful to my teachings. 32 And you will know the truth, and the truth will set you free.”

What is going to be the final authority in my life?  The Word or the World?
