BLESSING FROM BROKENNESS

God wants to bless us; however, we have a mixed understanding of what blessings are.

Matthew 5:3  (NLT)

“God blesses (the condition of the individual) those who are poor and realize their need for him (attitude),
for the Kingdom of Heaven is theirs (reward).

Blessings are not based upon circumstances, but being right with God.

In order for God to bless you, you must be broken first.  It is an act of your will.

It is a surrendered will to God's will. You must come to the end of yourself. Brokenness is an ongoing lifestyle.

Matthew 21:42-44 (NLT)

42 Then Jesus asked them, “Didn’t you ever read this in the Scriptures?
‘The stone that the builders rejected
    has now become the cornerstone.
This is the Lord’s doing,
and it is wonderful to see.’
43 I tell you, the Kingdom of God will be taken away from you and given to a nation that will produce the proper fruit. 44 Anyone who stumbles over that stone will be broken to pieces, and it will crush anyone it falls on.

It is the brokenness of my self will, so the fragrance of Jesus can be released.

"Poor" means to have nothing in Matthew 5:3.  The people who are blessed are those who fully understand their inability to please God.

Proverbs 16:5 (NLT)

The Lord detests the proud;
    they will surely be punished.

Isaiah 57:15 (NLT)

15 The high and lofty one who lives in eternity,
    the Holy One, says this:
“I live in the high and holy place
with those whose spirits are contrite and humble.
I restore the crushed spirit of the humble
and revive the courage of those with repentant hearts.

The pathway of blessings comes on the road of humility. You have to become convicted of your spiritual poverty in your heart.

King David expressed heartache when faced with his sin and wrote about his sorrow.

King Saul blamed others when confronted with his sin and tried to hide it.

Proud people compare themselves to others.  Those people trust in themselves (Luke 18:9-14).

Brokenness comes from being convicted of your spiritual poverty.

We are all spiritually impoverished without Jesus.

When you are convinced, your head has been impacted.  If you are convicted, you heart has been impacted.

Jesus is the key to the kingdom of God. We must surrender to Him as Lord.  We can rely on ourselves or Him.

Romans 10:13 (NLT)

13 For “Everyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved.
