Behind the Mask
(John 3:20) “Everyone who does evil hates the
light, and will not come into the light for fear that his deeds will be
exposed.”
We have an opportunity.
(Genesis 4:7) “…sin is crouching at your door; it
desires to have you, but you must master it.”
We take a look.
(James 1:14) “Each one is tempted when, by his own
evil desire, he is dragged away and enticed.”
We begin to reason.
(John 8:44) “When he (Satan) lies, he speaks his
native language, for he is a liar and the father of lies.”
We take a step.
(James 1:15) “Then, after desire has conceived, it
gives birth to sin; and sin, when it is full-grown, gives birth to death.”
We start the cycle.
(Romans 7:18-19) “…For I have the desire to do
what is good, but I cannot carry it out. For what I do is not the good I want
to do; no, the evil I do not want to do--this I keep on doing.”
Unmasking our Dark Side
(1 John 1:5-10) “God is light; in him there is no
darkness at all…If we claim to be without sin, we deceive ourselves and the
truth is not in us. If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just and will
forgive us our sins and purify us from all unrighteousness. If we claim we have
not sinned, we make him out to be a liar and his word has no place in our
lives.”
1. Run.
(2 Timothy 2:22) “Flee the evil desires of youth,
and pursue righteousness, faith, love and peace, along with those who call on
the Lord out of a pure heart. “
2. Be accountable.
(Proverbs 28:13) “He who conceals his sins does
not prosper, but whoever confesses and renounces them finds mercy.”
3. Take precautions.
(Proverbs 5:8) “Keep to a path far from her, do
not go near the door of her house.”
4. Make Jesus Lord of my life.
(Romans 6:12-14) “Therefore do not let sin reign
in your mortal body so that you obey its evil desires. Do not offer the parts
of your body to sin, as instruments of wickedness, but rather offer yourselves
to God...For sin shall not be your master…”
(John 8:12) When Jesus spoke again to the people,
he said, “I am the light of the world. Whoever follows me will never walk in
darkness, but will have the light of life.”
Today, I make a fresh commitment to spiritual,
moral, ethical, and sexual purity.
