James 1:5 (NLT)
5 If you need wisdom, ask our generous God, and he will give it
to you. He will not rebuke you for asking.
1. We need wisdom, but we must ask for it.
We were a mess. We are in a mess, or we are
just one bad decision from being in a mess.
We can be blessed with God's wisdom. If we don't
have God's wisdom to steward our blessings, our blessings can become a
curse.
We must grow in wisdom. God is more concerned by your holiness than your
happiness.
Don't pursue happiness. Pursue holiness. If
you pursue holiness, happiness is a by product.
We need to do a motive check. We can do the
right thing with the wrong motives. God is not in that. Don't do it
for the glory of others, but for the glory of God.
James 4:3 (NLT)
3 And even when you ask, you don’t get it because your motives
are all wrong—you want only what will give you pleasure.
2. We must count the cost, and use common
sense.
Luke 16:10 (NLT)
10 “If you are faithful in little things, you will be faithful
in large ones. But if you are dishonest in little things, you won’t be honest
with greater responsibilities.
If you're not responsible for the little that you
have, why would God give you more to be irresponsible with?
If we don't know how love God, how will we love others?
Luke 14:28-30 (NLT)
28 “But don’t begin until you count the cost. For who would
begin construction of a building without first calculating the cost to see if
there is enough money to finish it?
29 Otherwise, you might
complete only the foundation before running out of money, and then everyone
would laugh at you.
30 They would say, ‘There’s the person who
started that building and couldn’t afford to finish it!’
Patience is a weapon against deception. Satan wants to get you in a hurry. He doesn't want you to see the
finish line to your decisions. If you get in a hurry, you're vision
gets blurry.
3. We must have the peace of God.
Peace is an indication that the Holy Spirit is
present. We must follow God's peace.
Colossians 3:15 (AMPC)
15 And let the peace (soul harmony which
comes) from Christ rule (act as umpire continually) in your hearts [deciding
and settling with finality all questions that arise in your minds, in that
peaceful state] to which as [members of Christ’s] one body you were also called
[to live]. And be thankful (appreciative), [giving praise to God always].
4. We must surrender the outcome to God.
Proverbs 16:33 (NLT)
33 We may throw the dice,
but the Lord determines
how they fall.
