Unforgiveness is like quick
sand. The longer that we are in it the deeper we sink.
Matthew 5:23-24 (NLT)
23 “So if you are presenting a sacrifice at the
altar in the Temple and you suddenly remember that someone has something
against you, 24 leave
your sacrifice there at the altar. Go and be reconciled to that person. Then
come and offer your sacrifice to God.
It is hard to hear anything
else when we are wounded by someone else.
Romans 12:9-19 (NLT)
9 Don’t just pretend to love others. Really love
them. Hate what is wrong. Hold tightly to what is good.
10 Love each other with genuine
affection, and take delight in honoring each other.
11 Never be lazy, but work hard
and serve the Lord enthusiastically.
12 Rejoice in our confident hope. Be patient in trouble, and
keep on praying.
13 When
God’s people are in need, be ready to help them. Always be eager to practice
hospitality.
14 Bless those who persecute you. Don’t curse them;
pray that God will bless them.
15 Be
happy with those who are happy, and weep with those who weep.
16 Live in harmony with each
other. Don’t be too proud to enjoy the company of ordinary people. And don’t
think you know it all!
17 Never pay back evil with more evil. Do things in
such a way that everyone can see you are honorable.
18 Do all that you can to live in
peace with everyone.
19 Dear friends, never take revenge. Leave that to
the righteous anger of God. For the Scriptures say,
“I will take revenge;
I will pay them back,”
says the Lord.
I will pay them back,”
says the Lord.
Our relationship with God is
directly connected to our relationship with each other.
2 Corinthians 5:17-21 (NLT)
17 This means that anyone who belongs to Christ has
become a new person. The old life is gone; a new life has begun!
18 And all of this is a gift from God, who brought
us back to himself through Christ. And God has given us this task of
reconciling people to him.
19 For
God was in Christ, reconciling the world to himself, no longer counting
people’s sins against them. And he gave us this wonderful message of
reconciliation.
20 So
we are Christ’s ambassadors; God is making his appeal through us. We speak for
Christ when we plead, “Come back to God!” 21 For God made Christ, who never sinned, to be the offering
for our sin,[a] so that
we could be made right with God through Christ.
Don't hold up your hands in worship while holding
onto a grudge. We must focus on being obedient, while allowing God to handle the
outcome.
We must extend grace while allowing God to extend
healing. We must seek to
reconcile while God provides the healing.
We live in a world that doesn't want to
apologize.
Say, "I was wrong. Is there anything that I
can do to make it right? Will you forgive me?"
There is power in an apology. If it is
up to me, I'm going to be at peace with everyone. Is there anything
that you're holding onto?
