Prayer is communication with God, but it is also confrontation with the devil. We are warned to...
Ephesians
6:10-18 (NLT)
10 ...Be strong in the Lord and in his mighty power.
11 Put on all of God’s armor so that you will be able to stand firm against all strategies of the devil.
12 For we are not fighting against
flesh-and-blood enemies, but against evil rulers and authorities of the unseen
world, against mighty powers in this dark world, and against evil spirits in
the heavenly places.
13 Therefore, put on every piece of God’s armor so you will be
able to resist the enemy in the time of evil. Then after the battle you will
still be standing firm.
14 Stand your ground, putting on the belt of truth and the body armor
of God’s righteousness.
15 For shoes, put on the peace that comes from the Good News so that
you will be fully prepared.
16 In addition to all of these, hold up the shield of faith to stop the
fiery arrows of the devil.
17 Put on salvation as your helmet, and take the sword of the Spirit,
which is the word of God.
18 Pray in the Spirit at all times and on every occasion. Stay
alert and be persistent in your prayers for all believers everywhere.
1.
The devil is a real person.
Satan would love
for you to believe that he is not real.
Just because you don't believe in
him does not make him go away.
John 10:10 (NLT)
10 The
thief’s (Satan's ) purpose is to steal and kill and destroy.
My (Jesus) purpose
is to give them a rich and satisfying life.
When the devil
is in control of something, he always destroys it.
2
Corinthians 11:14 (NLT)
14 But I am not surprised! Even Satan disguises himself as an
angel of light.
2. The devil wants to destroy you.
1 Peter 5:8-9 (NLT)
8 Stay
alert! Watch out for your great enemy, the devil.
He prowls around like a
roaring lion, looking for someone to devour.
9 Stand firm against him, and be strong in your faith...
3. The devil responds to higher authority.
1 John 4:4 (NLT)
... the Spirit
who lives in you is greater than the spirit who lives in the world.
Satan can't get to God, so he comes after you. That's why we have the Holy Spirit inside of us to protect us against his spiritual assaults.
Satan can't get to God, so he comes after you. That's why we have the Holy Spirit inside of us to protect us against his spiritual assaults.
We have three
spiritual weapons...
1.
We have the name of Jesus.
Philippians 2:10 (NLT)
that
at the name of Jesus every knee should bow,
in heaven and on earth and under the earth,
in heaven and on earth and under the earth,
2.
We have the blood of Jesus.
Revelation 12:11 (NLT)
And
they have defeated him by the blood of the Lamb
and by their testimony.
And they did not love their lives so much
that they were afraid to die.
and by their testimony.
And they did not love their lives so much
that they were afraid to die.
Sin
is what gives Satan his power. When the cross takes away our sins, his power that he had over us goes away.
3.
We have the Word of God.
Hebrews 1:3 (ESV)
3 He (Jesus) is the radiance of the
glory of God and the exact imprint of his nature, and he (Jesus) upholds
the universe by the word of his power...
What must we
do???
1. We must daily
submit ourselves to God.
James 4:7-8 (ESV)
7 Submit
yourselves therefore to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you. 8 Draw near to God, and he will draw near to you...
Our authority
over Satan is only as good as our relationship to God.
2. We must close
any door that gives the enemy access to us.
2
Corinthians 2:10-11 (ESV)
10 Anyone
whom you forgive, I also forgive. Indeed, what I have forgiven, if I have
forgiven anything, has been for your sake in the presence of Christ, 11 so that we would not be outwitted by Satan; for we are
not ignorant of his designs.
Ephesians
4:26-27 (ESV)
26 Be angry and do not sin; do not let the sun go
down on your anger, 27 and give no
opportunity to the devil.
Ephesians
5:11 (NLT)
11 Take no part in the worthless deeds of evil and darkness;
instead, expose them.
Psalm 139:23-24 (NLT)
Search
me, O God, and know my heart;
test me and know my anxious thoughts.
test me and know my anxious thoughts.
Point out anything in me that offends you,
and lead me along the path of everlasting life.
3.
We must confront the enemy everyday.
10%
of my prayer time goes to confronting the enemy in Jesus's name.
Luke 10:17-19 (NLT)
17 When the seventy-two disciples returned, they joyfully
reported to him, “Lord, even the demons obey us when we use your name!”
18 “Yes,” he
told them, “I saw Satan fall from heaven like lightning!
19 Look, I have given you authority over all the power of the enemy, and
you can walk among snakes and scorpions and crush them. Nothing will injure you.
