Mirror Mirror

2 Corinthians 3:16-18 The Message (MSG)

16-18 Whenever, though, they turn to face God as Moses did, God removes the veil and there they are—face-to-face! They suddenly recognize that God is a living, personal presence, not a piece of chiseled stone. And when God is personally present, a living Spirit, that old, constricting legislation is recognized as obsolete. We’re free of it! All of us! Nothing between us and God, our faces shining with the brightness of his face. And so we are transfigured much like the Messiah, our lives gradually becoming brighter and more beautiful as God enters our lives and we become like him.

When you come to God, He begins to work with your character and identity.

Everyone looks to be validated by something.

I. We look into the mirror of our past failure and rejection.

We are not what we did.

II.  We look into the mirror of social pressure.

We are not who others say we are.

III.  We look into the mirror of perfectionism.

We are more than what we cannot do.

We must not look into the wrong mirrors.  We find out who we are from our creator, God.

James 1:23-25  (NLT)

23 For if you listen to the word and don’t obey, it is like glancing at your face in a mirror. 24 You see yourself, walk away, and forget what you look like. 25 But if you look carefully into the perfect law that sets you free, and if you do what it says and don’t forget what you heard, then God will bless you for doing it.

Moses struggled with his identity and his ability.

Exodus 3:11-12  (NLT)

11 But Moses protested to God, “Who am I to appear before Pharaoh? Who am I to lead the people of Israel out of Egypt?”
12 God answered, “I will be with you. And this is your sign that I am the one who has sent you: When you have bro

We ask who am I?  God answers I will be with you.

You are not you past, but it's about your future if God is with you.

1.  Who am I?

1 Corinthians 15:10 (NLT)

10 But whatever I (Paul) am now, it is all because God poured out his special favor on me—and not without results. For I have worked harder than any of the other apostles; yet it was not I but God who was working through me by his grace.

Don't measure yourself by yourself.   Measure yourself by the grace of God.

Exodus 3:13-14  (NLT)

13 But Moses protested, “If I go to the people of Israel and tell them, ‘The God of your ancestors has sent me to you,’ they will ask me, ‘What is his name?’ Then what should I tell them?”
14 God replied to Moses, “I am who i am. Say this to the people of Israel: I am has sent me to you.”

God cannot be limited by one name.  He is I AM whatever you need.

2.  Who are you?

If you focus on the physical, you'll talk yourself out of who you are made to be?

Jeremiah 32:17 (NASB)

17 ‘Ah Lord God! Behold, You have made the heavens and the earth by Your great power and by Your outstretched arm! Nothing is too difficult for You,

If you want confidence in yourself, you must have confidence in your God.

There is nothing too difficult in God.

Exodus 4:1 N (NASB)

Then Moses said, “What if they will not believe me or listen to what I say? For they may say, ‘The Lord has not appeared to you.’”

3.  What if they?

We must not have a fear of people.

John 12:42-43  (NLT)

42 Many people did believe in him (Jesus), however, including some of the Jewish leaders. But they wouldn’t admit it for fear that the Pharisees would expel them from the synagogue. 43 For they loved human praise more than the praise of God.

Romans 1:16 New Living Translation (NLT)

16 For I am not ashamed of this Good News about Christ. It is the power of God at work, saving everyone who believes—the Jew first and also the Gentile.

Exodus 4:10-12  (NLT)

10 But Moses pleaded with the Lord, “O Lord, I’m not very good with words. I never have been, and I’m not now, even though you have spoken to me. I get tongue-tied, and my words get tangled.”
11 Then the Lord asked Moses, “Who makes a person’s mouth? Who decides whether people speak or do not speak, hear or do not hear, see or do not see? Is it not I, the Lord? 12 Now go! I will be with you as you speak, and I will instruct you in what to say.”

Don't disqualify yourself from your purpose.  God is with YOU!

Philippians 4:13  (NLT)

13 For I can do everything through Christ, who gives me strength.

If God has spoken to you, don't let Satan steal it from you.
