Our Fight of Faith in Prayer

We get to fight for other people today.

Even for those who don't know that they are in a fight.

If they did, they might not know how to fight.

Church of the Highlands is about to launch a new series, and have an all out attack on depression.

What we face is more spiritual than what we know.

We know the physical, but don't fully understand the spiritual.

The Apostle Paul helps us to understand our fight.

2 Corinthians 10:3-5 (NIRV)

I do live in the world.

But I don’t fight my battles the way the people of the world do.

The weapons I fight with are not the weapons the world uses.

In fact, it is just the opposite.

My weapons have the power of God to destroy the camps of the enemy.

I destroy every claim and every reason that keeps people from knowing God.

I keep every thought under control in order to make it obey Christ.

We may call it depression and anxiety, but we have the weapon that knocks it down.

Believing Prayers.

Do you believe in prayer?

Do you believe in your prayers that they will push back the spiritual darkness?

Jesus spoke about the power of believing words and prayers.

Mark 11:22-26 (NIRV)

22 “Have faith in God,” Jesus said.

If we don't believe in our own prayers,it is in effect doubting the God to whom we address our prayers to.

23 “What I’m about to tell you is true. Suppose someone says to this mountain, ‘Go and throw yourself into the sea.’

They must not doubt in their heart.

They must believe that what they say will happen.

Then it will be done for them.

24 So I tell you, when you pray for something, believe that you have already received it.

Then it will be yours.

Our words and prayers must line up with God's will as expressed in God's Word (I John 5:14);

however, a prerequisite to answered prayer is that we must believe in the prayers that we ask.

25-26 And when you stand praying, forgive anyone you have anything against.

Then your Father in heaven will forgive your sins.”

Unbelief and unforgiveness will abort our prayers before we ask them.

How are we going to fight in prayer?

Jesus did His part in the fight for you by hanging on a cross.

Now we must do our part by believing in Him while we pray to God for others.

Here is how we must fight...

1. Our spiritual weapons are our worship and His word.

We confront our every thought of unforgiveness and unbelief as we pray while taking those thoughts captive.

2. Our prayers are in Jesus's name.

We wear His jersey.

We carry His banner into the fight that ensures victory.

We pray from His perspective and pray what Jesus would have us pray.

3. Our prayers are on behalf of others.

They don't want what they have in their lives.

They aren't here now, but they will be.

This fight is not ours but the Lord's.
