I want you to pray in every situation even if it is just a 10 second prayer.
I want you to have a selection of prayers to keep your prayer fresh.
I want you to have a selection of prayers to keep your prayer fresh.
We want our Prayers to move us closer toward God.
Paul spoke of praying in every situation with different types of prayer in this passage below.
(Ephesians 6:18 GW) Pray in the Spirit in every situation. Use every kind of prayer and request there is.
We previously spoke on the Tabernacle Prayer of Moses.
Next, we spoke on the prayer of Jabez which can be used within any type of prayer. (Chronicles 4:10)
(It is a prayer for...
Blessing,
Influence,
Protection,
and Freedom).
Today, I'd like to teach you about an aspect of prayer that should be a part of every prayer that you pray.
Ask yourself "Why should God answer my prayers?"
Your prayers should not be based upon you.
It should be based upon the character of the one being asked.
One consistent aspect of all my prayers is basing my request upon who He is.
I use the names of God to do this.
That's why we have a commandment in the 10 commandments not to take the name of our God in vain. (Exodus 20:7)
Don't empty the name of God by using it in vain which means by not talking to Him or about Him.
God's name is power.
It shakes the heavens (and hell) if one uses it appropriately in reverence and faith.
Every demon freaks out at the name of Jesus.
Start off your prayers with the names of God.
Use them every time you pray when you are going through difficulty.
There are 8 covenant names of God, which can be found in the 23rd Psalm written by King David.
The Prayer of the Sheep (Psalm 23:1-6 NKJV)
The LORD is my Shepherd; I shall not want.
He makes me to lie down in green pastures;
He leads me beside the still waters.
He restores my soul;
He leads me in the paths of righteousness For His name’s sake.
Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil; for You are with me;
Your rod and Your staff, they comfort me.
You prepare a table before me in the presence of my enemies;
You anoint my head with oil; my cup runs over.
Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days of my life; and I will dwell in the house of the Lord forever.
1. You are my Shepherd (Pastor).
Jehovah-Raah in Hebrew. He who guides, protects, and leads.
(Psalm 23:1 NKJV) The LORD is my Shepherd…
(John 10:14) “I am the good shepherd; I know my sheep and my sheep know me.”
2. You are my Provider. In Hebrews, it is Jehovah Jireh.
(Psalm 23:1 NKJV) The LORD is my Shepherd; I shall not want.
(Philippians 4:19) And my God will meet all your needs according to his glorious riches in Christ Jesus.
I will not trust in riches. I will put my trust in Him who richly provides.
We try to grab for things to save us.
The poor give better than the rich because the poor must trust in God for their needs.
3. You are my Peace. Jehovah-Shalom in Hebrew.
God doesn't have peace.
He is peace.
He is the Prince of Peace for your family, money, and health. (Isaiah 9:6)
(Psalm 23:2 NKJV) He makes me to lie down in green pastures; He leads me beside the still waters.
He'll make you lay down if you don't lay down yourself.
(John 14:27) “Peace I leave with you; my peace I give you.
I do not give to you as the world gives.
Do not let your hearts be troubled and do not be afraid.”
4. You are my Healer. Jehovah-Rapha in Hebrew.
God returns us to our point of departure.
God still heals even beyond our physical bodies.
(Psalm 23:3 NKJV) He restores my soul.
(1 Peter 2:24-25 NLT) He personally carried our sins in his body on the cross so that we can be dead to sin and live for what is right.
By his wounds you are healed.
Once you were like sheep who wandered away.
But now you have turned to your Shepherd, the Guardian of your souls.
5. You are my Righteousness. Jehovah-Tsidkenu in Hebrew.
He makes us righteous.
The Holy Spirit makes our human spirit within us Holy.
(Psalm 23:3 NKJV) He leads me in the paths of righteousness for His name's sake.
(1 Peter 1:14-15) As obedient children, do not conform to the evil desires you had when you lived in ignorance.
But just as he who called you is holy, so be holy in all you do.
6. You are my constant companion. Jehovah Shammah in Hebrew.
(Psalm 23:4 NKJV) Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death,
I will fear no evil; for You are with me; Your rod and Your staff, they comfort me.
The rod is not for you, but for the wolf.
The curve is to pull you out of the wolf's mouth.
When I'm not paying attention, I have a God who is paying attention for me.
God is at the beginning and end of my every fight.
(Hebrews 13:5-6) God has said, “Never will I leave you; never will I forsake you.”
So we say with confidence, “The Lord is my helper; I will not be afraid.
What can mere mortals do to me?”
So we say with confidence, “The Lord is my helper; I will not be afraid.
What can mere mortals do to me?”
7. You are my Defender. Banner of Victory. Jehovah-Nissi in Hebrew.
(Psalm 23:5 NKJV) You prepare a table before me in the presence of my enemies.
God gives us more than we need, so we can give to those in need from His overflowing blessings.
(2 Thessalonians 3:3) But the Lord is faithful, and he will strengthen you and protect you from the evil one.
8. You are my Sanctifier (set apart). Jehovah-M'Kaddeesh in Hebrew.
(Psalm 23:5 NKJV) You anoint my head with oil; my cup runs over.
He has set you apart like fine china for a special purpose.
If you haven't got it yet, you are.
(1 Peter 2:9) But you are a chosen people, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, God’s special possession, that you may declare the praises of him who called you out of darkness into his wonderful light.
God answers prayer based on Who He is not on Who we are.
