(Luke 3:16-17) John answered them
all, “I baptize you with water. But one more powerful than I will come, the
thongs of whose sandals I am not worthy to untie. He will baptize you with the
Holy Spirit and with fire.”
(Ephesians 4:30) “Do not grieve
the Holy Spirit of God…”
(1 Thessalonians 5:19, 23) “Do
not put out the Spiritʼs fire…May God himself, the God of peace, sanctify you
through and through. May your whole spirit, soul and body be kept blameless at
the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ.”
Our spirit is drawn to idolatry.
(Matthew 6:24) “No one can serve
two masters. Either he will hate the one and love the other, or he will be
devoted to the one and despise the other. You cannot serve both God and Money.”
Our soul is drawn to pride.
(Galatians 5:22-23) “But the
fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness,
faithfulness, gentleness and self- control.”
Our body is drawn to lust.
(1 Corinthians 6:19-20) “Do you
not know that your body is a temple of the Holy Spirit, who is in you, whom you
have received from God? You are not your own; you were bought at a price.
Therefore honor God with your body.” A Holy Spirit in Me
(Ezekiel 36:26-27) “I will give
you a new heart and put a new spirit in you; I will remove from you your heart
of stone and give you a heart of flesh. And I will put my Spirit in you and
move you to follow my decrees and be careful to keep my laws.”
1. Invite the Holy Spirit to
show me.
(Psalm 139:23-24) “Search me, O
God, and know my heart; test me and know my anxious thoughts. See if there is
any offensive way in me, and lead me in the way everlasting.” (John 16:8) “When
he comes, he will convict the world of guilt in regard to sin and righteousness
and judgment:”
2. Invite the Holy Spirit to
change me.
(Psalm 51:10-11) “Create in me a
pure heart, O God, and renew a steadfast spirit within me. Do not cast me from
your presence or take your Holy Spirit from me.”
(Romans 8:5-6) “Those who live
according to the sinful nature have their minds set on what that nature
desires; but those who live in accordance with the Spirit have their minds set
on what the Spirit desires. The mind of sinful man is death, but the mind controlled
by the Spirit is life and peace”
(Galatians 5:14, 25) “So I say,
live by the Spirit, and you will not gratify the desires of the sinful
nature…Since we live by the Spirit, let us keep in step with the Spirit.” 3.
Invite the Holy Spirit to fill me. (Ephesians 5:18) “Do not get drunk on wine,
which leads to debauchery. Instead, be filled with the Spirit.”
One of the main purposes of the
Holy Spirit is to put a holy spirit in me.
