Breaking Free
(Luke 4:18) “The Spirit of the Lord is on me,
because he has anointed me to proclaim good news to the poor. He has sent me to
proclaim freedom for the prisoners and recovery of sight for the blind, to set
the oppressed free, to proclaim the year of the Lord’s favor.”
(Acts 10:38) …how God anointed Jesus of Nazareth
with the Holy Spirit and power, and how he went around doing good and healing
all who were under the power of the devil, because God was with him.
(1 John 3:8) The reason the Son of God appeared
was to destroy the devil’s work.
(2 Corinthians 10:3-5) For though we live in the
world, we do not wage war as the world does. The weapons we fight with are not
the weapons of the world. On the contrary, they have divine power to demolish
strongholds. We demolish arguments and every pretension that sets itself up
against the knowledge of God, and we take captive every thought to make it
obedient to Christ.
Strongholds are anything that exalts itself in our minds, pretending to be bigger than God.
A prisoner locked by deception.
Living life by something that is not true.
God has a better life for you than the one you're currently living.
Strongholds
• Steal our focus.
• Cause us to feel controlled.
• Consume our emotional energy.
• Distract us from our purpose.
• Rob us of abundant life.
(2 Timothy 2:26) ...they will come to their senses
and escape from the trap of the devil, who has taken them captive to do his
will.
Overcoming Strongholds
(Luke 11:21-22 MSG) "When a strong man, armed
to the teeth, stands guard in his front yard, his property is safe and sound.
But what if a stronger man comes along with superior weapons? Then he's beaten
at his own game, the arsenal that gave him such confidence hauled off, and his
precious possessions plundered.”
1.Take back my thought life.
I will never change my life
until I change the way I think.
(Romans 8:5-6 NLT) Those who are dominated by the
sinful nature think about sinful things, but those who are controlled by the
Holy Spirit think about things that please the Spirit. If your sinful nature
controls your mind, there is death. But if the Holy Spirit controls your mind,
there is life and peace.
(Romans 12:2 NLT) Don’t copy the behavior and
customs of this world, but let God transform you into a new person by changing
the way you think.
2. Identify the lie.
(John 8:44) “…When (the devil) lies, he speaks his
native language, for he is a liar and the father of lies.”
3. Replace the lie with God’s truth.
When we expose the lie, we
defeat the liar.
(Ephesians 6:10-18) Finally, be strong in the Lord
and in his mighty power. Put on the full armor of God, so that you can take
your stand against the devil’s schemes… (Take) the sword of the Spirit, which
is the word of God. And pray…
Defeat the liar by...
• The Word of God.
• Prayer.
