Psalm 46 (NLT)
1 God is our refuge and strength,
always
ready to help in times of trouble.
2 So we will not
fear when earthquakes come
and
the mountains crumble into the sea.
3 Let the oceans
roar and foam.
Let the mountains tremble as the waters
surge!
God is our safe place. He is always
ready to help in times of trouble.
It doesn't matter what's
happening. Nothing scares me when I'm secure in God and His
presence.
In His presence, our perspective changes. We are no
longer focused on the world, but on God.
God is our person of refuge, but
He has a place of refuge.
always ready to help in times of trouble.
2 So we will not fear when earthquakes come
and the mountains crumble into the sea.
3 Let the oceans roar and foam.
Psalm
46:4-7 (NLT)
4 A river brings joy to the city of our
God,
the sacred home of the Most High.
5 God dwells in
that city; it cannot be destroyed.
From the very break of day, God will protect it.
6 The nations
are in chaos,
and their kingdoms crumble!
God’s
voice thunders,
and the earth melts!
7 The Lord of Heaven’s Armies is
here among us;
the God of Israel is our fortress.
The place
of refuge in the New Testament is God's church.
In the Old Testament,
there were six cities of refuge. They were evenly spread apart.
If
you went there, no one could harm you. There were six of them evenly
dispersed throughout the land about 32 miles apart.
3 on the
east of the Jordan River and 3 on the west. They were built on a hill
where they could be seen.
Those cities were a picture of the New Testament
Church. We go there to escape our accuser, Satan.
Lord, send those
who are harassed by Satan to us for their place of refuge.
the sacred home of the Most High.
5 God dwells in that city; it cannot be destroyed.
From the very break of day, God will protect it.
6 The nations are in chaos,
and their kingdoms crumble!
God’s voice thunders,
and the earth melts!
7 The Lord of Heaven’s Armies is here among us;
the God of Israel is our fortress.
Hebrews 6:18-19 (NLT)
So God has given both his promise and
his oath. These two things are unchangeable because it is impossible for God to
lie.
Therefore, we who have fled to him for refuge can have great confidence as
we hold to the hope that lies before us.
19 This hope is a strong and trustworthy anchor for our souls. It leads
us through the curtain into God’s inner sanctuary.
Psalm
59:16-17 (NLT)
16 But as for me, I will sing about your power.
Each morning I will sing with joy about your unfailing love.
For
you have been my refuge,
a place of safety when I am in distress.
17 O my
Strength, to you I sing praises,
for you, O God, are my refuge,
the God who shows me unfailing love.
