(2 Corinthians 13:14 Message)
“The amazing grace of the Master, Jesus Christ, the extravagant love of God,
the intimate friendship of the Holy Spirit, be with all of you.”
The Spirit of God
(Genesis 1:2) “Now the earth was
formless and empty, darkness was over the surface of the deep, and the Spirit
of God was hovering over the waters.”
Heʼs unseen.
(John 20:29) Then Jesus told him,
“Because you have seen me, you have believed; blessed are those who have not
seen and yet have believed.”
Heʼs unpredictable.
(John 3:8) Jesus answered…“The
wind blows wherever it pleases. You hear its sound, but you cannot tell where
it comes from or where it is going. So it is with everyone born of the Spirit."
Heʼs powerful.
(Acts 1:5-8) “For John baptized
with water, but in a few days you will be baptized with the Holy Spirit.” So
when they met together, they asked him, “Lord, are you at this time going to
restore the kingdom to Israel?” He said to them: “It is not for you to know the
times or dates the Father has set by his own authority. But you will receive
power when the Holy Spirit comes on you.”
(Zechariah 4:6) “Not by might,
nor by power, but by my Spirit says the Lord Almighty.”
(1 Thessalonians 1:5) “…our
gospel came to you not simply with words, but also with power, with the Holy
Spirit and with deep conviction.”
Breath of Fresh Air
(Ephesians 5:18) “…be filled
with the Spirit.”
1. He provides Rest.
(Isaiah 63:14) “They were given rest by the Spirit
of the LORD. This is how you guided your people to make for yourself a glorious
name.”
2. He provides Direction.
(Romans 8:26-27) “In the same way, the Spirit
helps us in our weakness. We do not know what we ought to pray for, but the
Spirit himself intercedes for us with groans that words cannot express. And he
who searches our hearts knows the mind of the Spirit, because the Spirit
intercedes for the saints in accordance with Godʼs will.”
3. He provides Freedom.
(Romans 8:9) “You, however, are controlled not by
the sinful nature but by the Spirit, if the Spirit of God lives in you.” (2
Corinthians 3:17) “Now the Lord is the Spirit, and where the Spirit of the Lord
is, there is freedom.”
4. He provides Power.
(1 Corinthians 2:4-5) “My message and my preaching
were not with wise and persuasive words, but with a demonstration of the
Spiritʼs power, so that your faith might not rest on menʼs wisdom, but on Godʼs
power.”
5. He provides Ministry.
(Luke 4:18-19) “The Spirit of the Lord is on me,
because he has anointed me to preach good news to the poor. He has sent me to
proclaim freedom for the prisoners and recovery of sight for the blind, to
release the oppressed, to proclaim the year of the Lord's favor.”
